چکیده

Wireless connectivity in airplanes is becoming more important, demanded, and common. One of the largest bottlenecks with in-flight Internet that airplane far away from both satellites ground base stations during most flight time. Maintaining a reliable high-rate wireless connection over such long-range link thus becomes challenge. Microwave frequencies allow for long distances but lack data rate to serve up several hundreds potential onboard customers. Higher bands millimeter-wave spectrum (30 GHz-300 GHz) have, therefore, been utilized overcome bandwidth limitations. Still, per-user throughput state-of-the-art systems an order magnitude lower than one available terrestrial networks. In this paper, we take step further study channel characteristics terahertz band (THz, 0.3 THz-10 THz) map feasibility aviation. We first propose detailed model aerial THz communications taking into account non-flat Earth geometry main features frequency-selective channel. then apply estimate links different conditions. finally determine altitudes where use airplane-to-satellite preferable airplane-to-ground link. Our results reveal capacity airborne may reach speeds ranging 50-150 Gbps, enabling cellular-equivalent rates passengers staff entire flight.

EHF Satellite Communications-on-the-Move Blockage Channel Modeling

In the next-generation Transformational Satellite Communications System, one essential element is to provide satellite communication to on-the-move terminals, which suffer from intermittent channels due to blockages by objects in their environments. Presented is our approach for modeling these blockage channels for different environments, in order to allow accurate prediction of system behavior...

Cognitive Radio for Ka Band Satellite Communications

The satellite communication data traffic is increasing dramatically over the coming years. High throughput multibeam satellite networks in Ka band are potentially able to accommodate the upcoming high data rate demands. However, there is only 500 MHz of exclusive band for download and the same amount for upload. This spectrum shortage impose a barrier in order to satisfy the increasing demands....

Design and Performance Analysis of Ultra-massive Multi-carrier Multiple Input Multiple Output Communications in the Terahertz Band

Terahertz (THz)-band communication is envisioned as a key wireless technology to satisfy the need for much higher wireless data rates. To date, major progress in electronic, photonic and plasmonic technologies is finally closing the so-called THz gap. However, the exceedingly large available bandwidth at THz frequencies comes at the cost of a very high propagation loss. Combined with the power ...
